Slow weekend. Spent about 2 1/2 hours at two old churches for a
wheatie, a '61 penny, and finally a 1953 dimel. The wheatie and the
dime were both less than 6 inches from the edges of driveways. It cont-
inues to seem that people hunt the edges very well.

Been "swingin'" a loop for 28 years. Built a few, but can't compete
with the new machines. Can't beat Garrett for performance! Best finds
were Colonial Era silver coins. No gold coins YET! Best of luck to
all. The best detector is your head!

Does anyone have experience with 'deep' cache detectors like the Whites
TM 808 or even more expensive types like the Accurate detector? Are
they worth the money? Has anyone found and large or deep treasure
 with these machines? Thanks.

Yes, TF 900 ( enhanced TM 808) by discovery, is a very good deep search
detector, with Auto balance and cave/metal mode. I do not have any
experince with accurate locators, but might try them.

I have also tried black widow and 104-B, by analog system. I was
impressed. 104-B ignores the mineralization, and we could achieve a
depth of 5 meters with it. It is very similar to German made pulse star
 II.

Thanks, Sean. I hadn't considered the Discovery 900. I have had no
luck with Garrett's Depth multiplier and LE/400. The rig is very
unstable. Would get a reading one day and come back the next to dig
but there was no signal! Needed constant retuning. Will look into the

Had a dud of a long weekend. After 3 mornings of 2 to 3 hrs, managed
only a 1941 quarter and 1947 dime. These were at a site thats given me
about 100 silver coins so I always figure I can grab a few more when
I'm desparate, although even its getting a little scarce.

To Tom Y., I assume that you're hunting the eastern part of the state.
I grew up farther west (between Roch. and Buff.) and don't see much
before the 1820's there. I do visit the area regularly. If you do ever
get west of Rochester, let me know. Maybe we can hit a site or two.

Interesting (disturbing) note from a recent trip to NY. Detecting is
not allowed on state beaches or picnic areas of state parks from June
to Labor Day. Also, you must have a permit to detect during times when
it is allowed. Seems like a lot of legislators with nothing to do.

Paul, you might need to adjust your digging. If it is a good site but
with trash, you may need to dig everything. My last half $ was in
trash. It had a nail and wire in with it but the poor signal was worth
digging. Try a small loop. If you're using a Spectrum, let me know.

go to low on the transmit pwr, increase recovery speed, and/or reduce
DC sens. Try these separately or in combos. Experiment and have fun.
