I'd like to get some input on electronic probes. I've seen the tinytic,
 I also looked at the falcon, but was told it didn't do any better then
 the other. Would like to find one that works like the fisher 6-X probe.

Will someone reccomend a "top of the line" dectector for use on Florida
 beaches (not underwater)?

1266-X with no doubt is the top of the line.

    The big bad 1266-X found my first silver coin.  Its a 1942 Mercury
 Dime.  At the depth of 5".  I also dug 2 Wheaties at the place were I
 found the dime.  That makes a total of 10 Wheaties!  Way to go 1266-X!

Have been out of metal detecting for at least 10 years and want  to get
 back into it.  99% of my hunting is for coins.  I would like  imput as
 to which detectors are best and why?  I'm in an area with  heavy iron

Hi!  I'm going on a short trip to Anahiem CA. Is there restrictions to

WILLIAM (BILL) LESTER-  I RECOMMEND CZ5 FISHER FOR HUNTING ON BEACH.  I
 HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK USING IT.  CZ5 HAS A SWITH ON IT FOR SALT WATER.

I use Tesoro Golden Sabre Plus for local coinshooting, recommended by
 good friend Tye Brooks from Alabama.

I just purchased the Garrett Grand Master Hunter CXIII.  Can anyone give
 me information on its ability to do a good job?  I can't wait to get
 out there hunting with you all.  Save some for me.

How was the weekend everyone?  Did anyone go hunting?  Let us know what
 you found.  I myself did not get to go hunting.  I spent fathers' day

Hafa Adai from Guam! I am in the Navy stationed on Guam, and the only
 detecor enthusiast here. I have a Garett GM III, and am having problems
 using it (lack of knowlege) on the beach. Can anyone give me some
 pointers to improve my saltwater beach searches?

For Tracy who always seems interested in knowing how the detecting is
 going. Another fairly good weekend in western NY. 1 1943 P Nickel, 1
 1916 Buffalo Ni, 3 Indian head (1898, 1906, 1907), 2 Mercs (1939,
 1944) and 1 1951 Half dollar; also the usual wheaties and new stuff.

I'm looking for TH'ing clubs in South Carolina, specifically in the

I first got into detecting in 1983. I bought a Fisher 1260-X. Have there
 been enough improvements in circuitry and coil design to justify buying
 a new one? It still is an excellent producing machine. Anybody with any

For Tracy, my weekend wasn't that great but my Wednesday July 17th was
 great!  I found my first Barber dime 1905 and my first 1800's coin a
 1898 Barber dime (two in one night).  Plus a possible 16th century
 coin, the date looks like 1542. I'm having it checked tomorrow and

 find is the genuine article. It would be quite a  success story. My

To Vince:  Thanks, we drove to Salt Lake City to have the coin  checked
 out but the oldest book on coins they had went back to  1700 and it
 wasn't in there so it's older than 1700!!! If anyone out  there knows

cindy,    It's charles 1st.He ruled from 1625-1649.The front should be
 inscribed "carolus,dei gratia magnae britanniae ,franciae et hiberniae
 rex. It could be anything from a half farthing to a crown.

Craig Ont Can,  The coin I found has Carolusa with the u looking like  a
 v and Brittania spelled without an e.  There is another word on the
 front with Carolusa it starts with Ca but because of the corrosion on
 the  coin I can' t read the rest of the word.

Guess what guys (and girls) I found out what my coin is! It's a copper
 farthing dated 1673!!! I was quite a few years off on the date, but I'm
 still thrilled to have found a coin that old.  You were close Craig and
 thanks for the information you provided, it gave me a starting place.

To Cindy; Congrats again. 1700's is something in the US. 1600's is
 phenomenal. I settled for an 1893 cent and a 1963 qtr this weekend. I
 hunted an old church, which was obviously done before. All finds were
 within 1 foot of roads or driveways. Hunters get lazy at the edges.

 so far is a piece of bent metal, I found at a park... BEFORE I got
 kicked out... (Need a permit!) Is this the usual case??? :) I HOPE NOT!

Hi, John. No it's not the usual case, at least from my experience.  I've
 been at this for 9 yrs. and have never been kicked out of a park.  I
 was approached once but after seeing how carefully I was digging and
 replacing the small grass plugs, they let me continue.

hey does anyone have any civilwar maps of the Cumberland gap TN   area
 either pre civil war or right after? Have found 2 US box plates and a
 buckett full of bullets and a few fragements of cannon balls. like to
 here of  other civil war finds

Was able to get out for a few hours Sat. 17th, to the local park.  Found
 4 quarters, 2 nickels, 18 pennies. Nothing old.  The only  places I
 might find something old I haven't been able to get  permission to

TO:  TIM  1260-X comparison's.  Yes, Fisher has changed the circuitry
 in the 1200.  It is very worth upgrading your detector.  The new 1266-X
 is the newest 1200 detector, as far as the 1265-X line.  You might

My 10yr. old son and I were walking the beach at Disney's new Vero Beach
 Resort...when he found an old encrusted silver re`al. Looked like an
 old stone at first but chemical clean-up proved otherwise. He also
 found a large piece of pottery which was identified at the Mel Fischer

Just got a new Minelab XS  the 3rd day out I picked up 4 14k rings  2
 silver pieces and  65 cents worth of guarters. What a machine.  But I
